E.Ch. - 3000m Ladies
Saturday, 12 January 2008

On the 3000m ladies, It's a bit more empty, many spectators take a lunch break.

Note: Afterwards there are several time-corrections, Johansson, Grage, Myagkikh.

Marita Johansson has a race with 34 laps, finishing with two 35.0 laps, 4.23,59 her time. But there are some problems with the scoreboard. Total points 86.811. Later the time of Johansson is corrrected to 4:22.85, points 86,688.

Grage, 4.20,72; Myagkikh 4.23,29, better than a long time. Alas we don't know all the intermediate times. Not everything is perfect in Kolomna, the clock failed here. Later corrected: Grage 4.22,13, 87,838 points. Myagkikh 4.30,73. Total points: 87.838 and 86.891.

Maren Haugli - Agota Tóth. Haugli starts with 32 laps. Agota is on her way to post the slowest time. Two 33.1 laps for Haugli, 36 laps for the Hungarian. Another 33.1 for Haugli. She finishes after 33.6 in a new Track Record, 4.10,99. Toth in 4.34,60. Big smile for Haugli, and high five with Mueller. She leads in points, 83.221. Toth 87.686.

Junior Czerwonka - Oltean. They start comparable to Johansson, Czerwonka is a bit faster at 1000m, 1.26,94. Oltean stays very close behind but her she loses something when she has the last outer in a lap. Next lap, Czerwonka gains again. But it looks like Oltean beats the junior, just below 4.30. Oltean wins the pair in 4.18,66. Czerwonka 4.20,87. Last lap Oltean 34.6, Czerwonka 36.4. Points: Czerwonka 84.048, Oltean 84.650.

Marrit Leenstra opens fast, 19,59. then a 30.6 lap. Yasenok is her opponent. Then a 1.6 lap, 1.21,85 is the time after 1000m. Yasenok is already 6 seconds behind. Lap 32.3 and on her way to a personal best, it must be. Her best time was 4.10,01 but with 2.8, 3.4, gaining in every lap, the 18-year old will stay high in the classification. New pb, new TR: 4.08,34. Last lap was hard, but it was a daring race. 35.8. Yasenok 4.22,97. Points Leenstra, who takes the lead: 80.650. Yasenok 84.688.

Anghel-Abramova. Opening 19,79 Abramova. 20.25 Anghel. But oh, the first crossover is difficult, Anghel forgets to think of her opponent, who moves inside, touches Anghel, and then Anghel puts the breaks on. She will be disqualified, I juge. Anghel continues with a flat schedule of 33 laps, Abramova's laps go up and at 2000m Anghel leads. Yes, she will be disqualified, although she is proving something to herself here, we may say. Her 4.17,80 will not count. 4.20,84 is Abramova's time. A pity. Abramova has 83.203 points.

Lobysheva-Hemmer. The Russian opens 19,96 has 32 laps until 1800m, then 33.3. Hemmer keeps flat low 33 laps. Lobysheva at 2600 a 34.4 lap, Hemmer 33.7. The final lap for Lobysheva is slow, more than for Leenstra. Her time 4.13,18, behind Leenstra overall. Hemmer with 4.15,23 has the fourth time so far with a strong 33.9 last lap. Lobyseva has 81.436 points, Hemmer 84,138.

After ice preparation break We see Jirku and Opitz. Again, the first crossover goes wrong. Jirku goes outside, Opitz immediately behind. Then Jirku kind of doubts if she should continue outwards. Opitz is just behind her. Time for Opitz 4.12,26 with a 4.7 final lap. Jirku 4.22,08 but might expect disqualification. It's not certain how much Opitz was hindered, or even to blame for crossing to the inside before Jirku moves to the outside. In the end we learn there is no dq. The points for Jirku are 87,660, Opitz had 82,893.

Mattscherodt-Rokita. Mattscherodt, German Champion, has 32 laps, and finally 33.3 and 33.7 gives a final time of 4.10,19. 82.978 points. Rokita finishes also after a flat race and a 33.4 final lap in 4.13,09. Her points: 83,191.

The German cracks together, Anschütz and Pechstein. Both open 19.95/96. Anschütz takes the lead, lap 1.0 versus 1.3. Then both a 31.9 to pass in 1.22,98 and 1.23,33. Laps then 32.0 and 31.8! for Pechstein. Then Daniela has the inner again, 31.8 for her, 31.9 Pechstein. The time of Leenstra will be beaten here. Laps 32.4 and 32.3. Then 2.7 and 2.6, Anschütz is still in the lead, marginally. In the last lap, Pechstein takes the win, 4.04,66 (lap 2.5), Anschütz 4.04,71 (lap 2.6). Pechstein leads with 80.296 points, Anschütz 80.575.

Sablikova-Van Deutekom. Paulien opens 19.89, Martina is little slower, 20,09. Her start has improved. Paulien continues 1.0, 1.5, Martina 1.4, 1.8. Then 1.7 and 1.8 Paulien. They are faster than Pechstein. Sablikova now 31.5, Van Deutekom 32.0. Then 31.5 and 31.9. The new track record in the making. A final sprint for the Czech favourite, 31.4 and Van Deutekom 32.3.  With a 1.9 final lap and 32.6 for Van Deutekom, the TR for Martina is 4.01,67. Van Deutekom with 4.03,40 is the leader in the ranking with 79.966 points. Sablikova comes closer, 80.858 points.

Wüst-Likhachova. Crazy opening for Wüst below WR. 18,99. Then a 29.9 lap. It doesn't seem wise. Likhachova has lost 4 seconds already. Wust passes in 1.19,91 after a 30.9 lap after 1000m. The laps that follow are 31.4, 31.9, 32.0 and still 3 seconds ahead of the fastest time. Lap 32.8 now, and finally a 33.9 lap. Her time is not as fast as Sablikova, but 4.02,14 is faster than Van Deutekom, and she takes the lead overall with 79,786 points. Likhachova clocks 4.15,39, a bit disappointing for her. She has 82.735 points.

Final pair: Wójcicka, Groenewold. False start at first, but then it's okay. Opening 20.18 Wojcicka, 20.24 Groenewold who specializes in this distance. Lap for Groenewold 30.9, Wojcicka 31.3. Then Wojcicka 31.6, Groenewold 32.0. Then 31.9 Groenewold and 2.3 Wojcicka. It seems a bit slow, after Wüst, it's comparable to the German ladies. 2.3 then. Wojcicka now in low 33s. Groenewold 2.7, Wojcicka 33.5. Then 2.9, 4.2. Final time: 4.05,14 Groenewold and 81.636 points. Wójcicka 4.09,50 and 81.713 should certainly make the 5k.

Sablikova-Wüst-Van Deutekom, then Pechstein, Anschütz, Groenewold, Leenstra, Wojcicka, Mattscherodt, Haugli,  Opitz and Rokita finish top-12, Lobysheva is just outside with 4.13,18 and should make the last distance based on her ranking after three distances at the expense of Rokita.
