Brock Miron damaged his skates in the first race. Marnix Wieberdink, who organised the sponsorships of Kia and Yacht, and who has a bus and a lounge for the skaters outside the rink, worked hard to repair the skates before the 1000m.

In case he wouldn't succeed, Erben Wennemars's spare pare of skates were brought over from the hotel, according to the Dutch news agency ANP. Wennemars: "I think it is a disadvantage to skate alone, and as I had to race Brock in the 1000m, I wanted to prevent that."
