Canadian men win team pursuit |
|
Saturday, 03 February 2007 |
|
Steven Elm, Arne Dankers and Denny Morrison won the Team Pursuit in Turin. The silver medalists of the Olympics bettered their success then. Italy, with Luca Stefani instead of Sanfratello (he works for RAI tv as speedskating commentator) wasn't so strong and finished third behind Russia (Skobrev, Lalenkov, Yunin). The Dutch, who won the first TP, now kept Olde Heuvel, Prinsen and Ritsma busy, and finished 8th out of 10. Only Poland and Japan were slower. |

He won't participate, of course, but has fun spending some time around the rink. |

Kuipers replaces Nijenhuis |
|
Saturday, 03 February 2007 |
Simon Kuipers, Dutch reserve for Turin, replaces Beorn Nijenhuis. Last weekend in Heerenveen, Nijenhuis tore a muscle in his thigh. He thought he could skate a 1000m with it, at first, but then it got worse during training, so he withdrew. In spite of intense treatment in the past week, it hasn't completely healed, and he doesn't want to endanger the end of the season. |

On Sunday there were 100m races. The qualifying times were the 100m split times from the first 500m. The atmosphere in Thialf was really fun, while the skaters did their best to energize the audience, and the audience did its best to energize the skaters. Photo: Douwe Bijlsma. |
