In the 1000m men, no Lobkov and no Bøkko (as known), no Wennemars but Tuitert, no Lebedev but Yesin, no Elm but Roberge, no Kang-Seok Lee but Ki-Ho Lee. Lobkov and Bøkko's places are taken by Fengtong Yu and Takaharu Nakajima from the reservelist. The main favourite of course, Olympic and reigning World Champion as well as World Cup winner Shani Davis. |

The 500m was as expected for Wolf. Beixing is clearly back, and Kajkan and the Dutch girls are a bit disappointing. |

Three skaters from the reservelist entered, as Natasja Bruintjes was entered as the third Dutch, instead of Nesbitt, Kerry Simpson took over as third Canadian. and Yekaterina Lobysheva did not start either, letting Lauren Cholewinski represent the USA. |

Jeremy Wotherspoon set the track record in the first race to 34.78. The sum of two races counts, though there are voices discussing that since the klapskates, as the difference between inner and outer is not significant any more, we may need to change the rules to have the best of two races count, so mishits would be 'forgivable'. |

Only 24 selected skaters can race in the World Single Distance Championships. But they don't. Just like the 1500m ladies was not full, also the 3000m ladies is not full. Wüst has a cold, has been withdrawn and replaced by Diane Valkenburg. In the draw, the place of Wüst is taken by Katrin Mattscherodt, who was initially paired with Hozumi. She is now the pairmate of Valkenburg. |
