ING Oval Finale ladies day3

On March 14, there were the Open Class races: the 1500m ladies and the 10,000m ladies. In the long distance only two participants, Mari Hemmer and Kei Nishidate. Hemmer improved her national record a little to 14.50,52.

World Record Denny Morrison

At the Oval Finale in Calgary, newly crowned world champion Denny Morrison skated a world record on the 1500m.

ING Oval Finale Day 2, men
Friday, 14 March 2008

The men skated the 1500m, both in the allround long and allround short programme, and the open 5000. The best result was for Beorn Nijenhuis, who smashed his record down from 1.45,02 (2004), and was more than three seconds faster than he had been all season. His new pb is 1:43,66.
Christian Pichler skated a national record for Austria, 1.48,03.

ING Oval Finale Day 2, ladies (JWR)

Marrit Leenstra skated her second junior world record this weekend, needing only 1.15,41 for the 1000m, where she beat Kristina Groves. She also took the Junior World Record points away from Wüst, with 38,92, 1.55,14, 1.15,41, 4.08,13.

Also loads of personal best times again in Calgary on the second day of the Oval Finals, March 13.

In the men's field, José Ignacio Fazio improved in the ARL program Argentinan records to 37.71 and 7.19,21. An allrounder after all. Christian Pichler improved his 3000m Austrian record to 3.52,53 and skated a NJR of 37.00.
Philippe Riopel improved his Canadian junior record from 35,71 to 35,34.

ING Oval Finale ladies

Many skaters celebrate the end of the season in Calgary, where from March 12 to 16 the ING Oval Finale takes place. This year I don't have the funds to be there and couldn't find someone to take over. But here some of the personal bests. The main feat is the Junior World Record of 1:55,14 by Marrit Leenstra.
