Inzell World Cup 1000m A men II Print E-mail
Sunday, 17 February 2008
Only one odd pair here, Pasi Koskela alone in the first pair. Lobkov doesn't start. His 500m start indicated some physical problems and an attempt to keep his third place in the ranking...

Koskela hasn't started.
Yesin and Flygind-Larsen 1.11,87 and 1.12,34. Over a second faster than yesterday, when both stayed above 1:13, the Norwegian even 1.13,95.
Nagashima / Heythausen. Heythausen finishes in 1.12,54 but Keiichiro Nagashima does not finish.
Roberge / Kleven Roberge beats the Norwegian with 1.12,09 versus 1.12,17.
Schwarz / Ustynowicz. Schwarz is happy with a time of 1.11,10 taking the lead; over a second faster than yesterday here as well. If that continues that fast, Davis will skate a TR. Ustynowicz 1.12,12.
Poutala / Carpenter. Poutala opens but no intermediate times shown. Then Carpenter with 42,67 and 43,30 Poutala (laps 5.8 and 6.6). Poutala seems to be tired. Carpetner 1.11,51 takes this and 1.13,05 for Poutala is at the tail.
Tuitert / Kuipers. Their coach went home, ill. Tuitert starts because Wennemars doesn't start. Ah, and here we see that Kuipers has cancelled and that Koskela took his place in this pair. 17.06 opening Tuitert, 17.24 Koskela. Bos, Kuipers and Wennemars will skate in Heerenveen. Tuitert, OldeHeuvel and Elgersma fight here for the remaining 2 spots. Tuitert needs a podium place to make it. 6.3 lap Tuitert (43.43) and 43.87 Koskela, who gives Tuitert right of way. Tuitert needs a good final lap and finishes in 1.11,02, the fastest time now. 1.13,03... the Finnish skaters don't have a good 1000m, but Pasi is the fastest today.
Elgersma / Wotherspoon. Elgersma had a good day yesterday, and was faster than his pairmate here. Still, Spoon is a candidate for the golden skate. 16.43 Spoon, 17.04 Elgersma. Spoon crosses in front. He skates relaxed. 25.5 lap, 42,01 passing. 43,38 (6.3) Elgersma. Final lap with last inner for Elgersma. But Spoon takes it, 1.10,72, 8.7 last lap. 1.11.20 (7.8) Elgersma.
Morrison / Remco Olde Heuvel. Morrison opens 16,90, 17.08 Olde Heuvel is comparable to the other Dutchmen. 42,83 (5.9) Morrison, 43.42 Olde Heuvel. Morrison skates a track record, 1.09,86. (7.0 final lap), Olde Heuvel is with 1.11,22 behind Tuitert, who will with one pair to come, probably not keep his third place where he is at now.
Davis / Bos. Opening 16.85 for Bos is very good. 17,03 Davis. Bos is still in the lead then, both a 5.8 lap, 42.65 Bos 42.88 Davis. And then the final lap. A rocket Davis, 1.09,65. Bos 1.09,94 brings him to the third place. Spoon in fourth place. Fifth Tuitert.

Davis wins with 1.09,65, Morrison 1.09,86, Bos 1.09,94. Wotherspoon 1.10,72; Tuitert 1.11,02. Schwarz (!) 1.11,10. Then Elgersma, Olde Heuvel, Carpenter, Yesin, Roberge, Ustynowicz, Kleven, Flygind-Larsen, Heythausen,Koskela,Poutala.

In points, Davis increases his lead and has 690 points. Morrison has 616 and Bos 505. Then Wotherspoon, 420 points. Kuiperes 366 points and then Kyou-Hyuk Lee and Joon Mun. With one 1000 to go in Heerenveen, only Morrison could in theory keep Davis from the overall win. Davis was once abesent, Morrison and Bos were everywhere.
