Marita Johansson skates 42,88 after making a false start in the first attempt.
Anschütz - Maren Haugli. The German starts well with 39,79 keeping her hopes for a podium position. Haugli posts a meagre 41,39.

Grage-Mattscherodt: Grage opens 12.19, has to cross behind Mattscherodt who opened 11.61. Times 44,15 (DEN) and 41,28 (GER). The 41,28 for Mattscherodt is a personal best (old one 41,36 two years ago in Hamar).
Oltean 41,54, Jirku opens 12,26 finishing 43,98. This is not a sprint championship.
Lucille Opitz - Mari Hemmer. Opitz has the second opening so far, Anschütz had 11.11, Opitz 11.37, finishes in second time as well, 40,85. Hemmer 41,60.

Sablikova-Wojcicka, the opening for Wojcicka 11.23, Sablikova not bad, 11.37, and a personal best of 40,58 ! Wojcicka 40,13.

Czerwonka-Groenewold. The start is hesitant, the opening 11.50 for Renate, slower than Sablikova. Czerwonka finishes in 40,57, just ahead of the reigning champion, Groenewold 40,78, slightly disappointing, but then, she has the capacity to make it up in the 3000. 

Likhachova - Rokita. 11.19 for the Russian, and 40,17, a good start for her, pb (was 40,41). Rokita 41,01.
Myagkikh- Tóth. 11.50/11.61 and final time 41,77 for Myagkih, 41,92 Tóth, far behind her best time.
Van Deutekom - Anghel now. The fastest opening so far: 10.99 versus 11.03. Good turn, and a personal best, 39,40. The fastest time. Anghel 40,84 with a last inner that could do with some improvement.

Leenstra-Yasenok. Opening 11.03 and 11.35. Leenstra's debut is fabulous. She improves her pb from 40,11 to 39.26. Yasenok from Belarus clocks 40,86. Leenstra is now leading and becomes dangerous for the title, all of a sudden.

Lobysheva - Wüst, of course this brings a false start. Wüst is too quick. We see the fastest openers, 10.95 and 10.97. Lobysheva is a strong 500m skater and keeps Wüst behind. Her 39.24 is faster than Leenstra, Wüst is angry, throws away her armband. 39,43 is slower than Leenstra and Van Deutekom.

Final pair Pechstein-Abramova. The fastest opening is for Pechstein, more explosive now she trains with Peter Müller, 10,86. Abramova 11.06. The lap for both is 28.6, Pechstein finishes in 39,52, behind Wüst, who is fourth on this distance. Abramova is sixth, 39,73.
