Hiroki Hirako has completed what he started on Monday. He took the Japanese allround title, after a fourth place on the 500m, he won the remaining three distances. The 159,589 points were 3 and a half point better than Shingo Hashibami, who had 163,125. The surprise was in the ladies field, where in spite of winning three distances, Maki Tabata did not take the title. Eriko Ishino won the title and the last distance. The 1500 was for Tabata in 2.05,77, followed by Eriko Ishino with 2.06,40 and Hiromi Otsu 2.07,05. Masako Hozumi did 2.07,33 and the fifth place was for Shiho Ishizawa, who only participated in the two shortest distances. The lead for Maki was almost 20 seconds; it was like the lead of Wüst versus Sáblikova in the last European Championships. Nobody expects you will lose, but you lose all that. 7.24,03 was the time for Ishino, Tabata did 7.44,19. It brought Tabata to 172,855 points, Ishino to 172,777. Second on the longest distance was Hiromi Otsu, but it was not enough for the bronze overall. Otsu had 174,415 points; Masako Hozumi finished third, in 7.38,34 and it brought her 173,702 points. Ayaka Kikuchi finished fifth, Eriko Seo was sixth. Last year, Hirako also won the title, but the distance to the number two was a point less. Then, Kesato Miyazaki was the runner up, but he finished not even in the top-10. New on the podium was Masashi Michishita, with a 25th place on the 500m, second on the 5000m, 13th, 1.56,96 on the 1500m and 14.33,87, third place, on the 10,000. Between him and Hirako, Teppei Mori took the silver on the 10k and finished fourth overall, although his 14.22,76 was almost enough. He was followed by Yota Konno and Hiroki Abe. Shingo Doi did not make it to the 10,000m, but finished fourth on the 1500, with 1.55,22, and 20th overall, Takaharu Nakajima, after winning the 500m, finished third on the 1500m, was last on the 5000m and finished 27th overall.

If the three- distances-rule was still counting, it would have been the same for Hiroki Hirako (
