The A-group just started, after the B-division was won this morning by Jorien Voorhuis, 1.59,73, before Katrin Mattscherodt, 2.00.07. The times are a bit slow, and the question is, if that will be like this in Div. A.
Skokova and Abramova finish in 2.04,27 and 2.02,69. In pair two we see Martina Sáblikova, she starts 26,68, faster than Raney, then Raney has a 29.8 lap, Sablikova 29.9. Then Sablikova manages a 30.5 lap, Raney 31.1. The final lap for the Czech lady is 31.4, Raney 32.3. The time for Sablikova is a track record: 1:58.66. Raney 2.00,70. The Japanese Otsu and Hozumi don't impress in any way, both skate a 2:01. Yekaterina Lobysheva is the local hero. She opens 26.1, has a 29.3 lap, 30.3 and then 32.4. A big difference between the last two laps, but nevertheless her time is a new TR: 1.58.40. Her opponent Lucille Opitz (GER) fell at 1000m, coming out of the turn, and seems hurt. She is still on the ice when Lobysheva passes again, and is helped to the bench afterwards. A tight race is the next one between Marrit Leenstra and Kaska Wójcicka. The Polish girl wins, 1.58,51 versus 1.58,53. They opened equal, both 26.66, then Wójcicka had a faster lap, then Leenstra, and their final lap was 31.6. Brittany Schussler and Diane Valkenburg now. They, too, open in 26.66. Schussler has a 28.8 lap, but Diane Valkenburg is stronger towards the end. Her 9.4, 0.3 and 1.7 bring her to a new TR: 1.58,20. Schussler 1.59,01. Maki Tabata is left behind by Jia Ji from China. Ji finishes in 1.58,96, Tabata 1.59.97. Anni Friesinger and Cindy Klassen go off faster then anybody else. 25.67 Klassen, Friesinger 25.43. Cindy pulls out a 28.4 lap, Anni 28.6, but then it seems to have been too much for Cindy, ho with 0.1 and 3.1 finishes in 1.57,36. Would have been a track record, if Friesinger hadn’t just finished in 1.55,39 after a 29.7 and 31.5 lap. A track record that is hard to beat. There was a small problem at the crossover after 1:30. Cindy coming from inner had to give way to Friesinger, but continued just a bit to the outside of her own lane. Friesinger quickly jumped to the inside, behind her back, which moved Cindy to the outer lane. Whether this was the best solution is not clear. It looked like Klassen waited for Friesinger to pass in the outer lane before going inside. Christine Nesbitt could do it in the next pair, but she opens 26.24, much slower. She continues in a 28.6 lap, equal to Friesinger, then 29.6, a minor bit faster, and also her final lap is a bit faster, 31.4, but it’s not enough. 1:56.00 brings her to second place. Her pairmate Pechstein finishes in 1.58,71. The final pair gives Daniela Anschütz-Thoms and Kristina Groves. It’s close, Groves opens 26.27, Anschütz 26.34. Groves then 28.9, Anschütz 29.1, but the next lap is for Anschütz, 30.1 versus 30.5, and immediately Anschütz has the lead, though in a range well behind Nesbitt. Their final laps are 1.4 (A) and 1.5 (G), it brings Anschütz to the podium, a bronze like yesterday: 1.57,10. Groves finishes fourth, 1.57,33. Cindy Klassen got disqualified for the crossover. |
