WSD: Team Pursuit men Print E-mail
Sunday, 11 March 2007
Again, the time doesn't work, during the Team Pursuit men. USA with Hedrick, Leveille and Marsicano (who won the 3000m in the Junior Worlds) lose to the Russian team with Lalenkov, Skobrev and Yunin. One lap to go, and one of the Americans fall. Russia finish in 3:41.23, a new NR for Russia. That is the least they can do. America doesn't finish. Chad does, and Leveille does, but it seems it's Marsicano who fell. Well, young skaters have something to learn yet.

Poland is now, heard late that they could skate, and are much slower than the Japanese team. The timing runs but the distance is a bit unclear to me... At least Russia remains in the lead. Japan finishes in 3:46.60, Poland in 3:56.18.

Canada starts at the finish side, Germany at the other side. Germany opens in 31.20, Canada 31.24..Next full lap Can 57.32, GER 58.24. CAN seems on WR pace, 1:23.70, two seconds faster than GER. Then CAN in 1:50.33, GER 1:53.00. CAN 2:17.06, GER 2:21.10. Two laps to go, when Can has 2:44.07, a WR for Dankers, Morrison and Warsylewicz? 3:11.28 and... they finish in 3:38.31, a nw World Record. Germany finishes in 3:46.74.

Can anyone better that? It was a nice and even race, the skaters seemed well tuned together. Russia is now still second and could get a medal. Or would the Swedes?

The Netherlands of TVM open with 30.61, then 57.01, 1.23.67. With 1:50.19 NED is slightly ahead of CAN. Swe is 1:52.95 here. 2:17.09 NED, then 2;44.60. It seem Canada is taking this gold, like they did with the ladies. They get a bit closer with 3:11.57. Now they have a wonderful lap with long swinging arms, In a good final lap, they set the WR to 3:37.80. Kramer,Wennemars and Verheijen. Sweden finishes only 6th in 3:48.96, so Russia has the medal they saved their energy for... So Putin will pay the skaters again...

NED 3:37.80 WR, CAN 3:38.31, RUS 3:41.23, JPN 3:46.60, GER 3:46.74, SWE 3:48.96, POL 3:56.18.
