After his world record, Sven Kramer said that yes, he was broken at the end of his race too:
"This season I won everything there was to win. But I had to skate as concentrated as I did. I was the first one to post a time, I couldn't wait till somebody else skated a time to go by (he must have meant either Verheijen or Ervik). On such a 5000 with Fabris, you can joke around, that was not possible now. I had to concentrate: Finish the strokes, count the turns, and continue like that. Other days I could do it differently. Now it had to be tight and stable." "I was good the entire season. But that was no coincidence. I have trained for years to get to this condition. It looks easy now, but all those years I worked hard to be able to win this 'easily' nowadays. Behind the screens many people work hard so that I can do the job in 12 minutes. It's good that I can reward those people who work hard. I had a t-shirt this summer, a Nike shirt with 5 stars. I have four of them now, one to go: E.Ch., Worlds, 5 and 10k. Now the team pursuit to go." "The Adelskalender isn't in my mind now. After tomorrow I am ready, and this spring I will start the preparation for the next winter, I am just as much looking forward to it. It should be another beautiful year. Much better than this it won't be, these next two years, but if not, then probably just as good will do." "This is better than the 5k. A title with a world record. Where I can improve on my time, I don't know. In Heerenveen I had a 30.6 schedule. Now every time I was under that. I had a few 30.7s, but I could always make up for them. Where-ever in the world, I think this time is hard to approach." About Carl: "I heard that his laptimes were slower than mine. Yes, I saw he was finished after the race. At the end of a season you see people getting tired. I'm broken after this race, too, though." |
