Laurine van Riessen was leading after each of the first three distances, but didn't win after the fourth:
"As I skate a 3000m like that, I don't deserve to become world champion." Her coach Jan van Veen: "The Asian skaters adapted better to the circumstances (i.e. wind, which blew against you at the finishing straight). That is something Laurine couldn't do yet. To anticipate on the circumstances, with short strokes on the finishing straight and long strokes on the crossing straight. She could not change that during the race." Also it was mentioned that it looked like the Korean skaters who finished in first and second place on the 1000m might have had a bit less wind. But after Noh skated a very good 3000, too, nobody can deny she deserved the title. Yu-Lim Kim reacted: "We train a lot on the outdoor rink in Seoul, because the indoor, Taennung, is very cold." |
