Shortly before the Team Pursuit races, there were some changes to the original draw.
First pair: Belarus versus France: 4:06.16 versus 3:54.41 NR. Then: Sweden ('this is our main event') 3:48.19 NR and Poland 3:51.64. 3: Japan 3:49.21 (close to SWE) and USA, not a unity, 3:59.78. 4: Russia 3:50.63 and Germany 3:49.61. 5: Norway: no time given, they were half a lap slower than their pair mates Italy who finished with 3:50.17. Still a learning school for Johansen, Van der Horst and Rukke. Sweden was happy, certain of the podium. 6: Canada 3:51.57 versus Kramer, Verheijen and Wouter Olde Heuvel, who owed it to win. They did in 3:46.61. 1. NED, 2. SWE, 3. JPN. World Cup ranking: 236 NED; 2CAN 206. 3GER 170. The ladies now. Japan 3:07.40 and Poland without Wojcicka 3:13.55, a NR. Second pair: Russia and Germany are close, but in the end the Germans overtake. Germany: 3:03.98, Russia 3:04.85. The crowd cheers for them, most people have stayed. Final pair Netherlands and Canada. Paulien van Deutekom has some back problems and in her place races Jorien Voorhuis, together with Wüst and Cramer. They are leading the World Cup with 170 points, 10 points ahead of Canada. A bad start for the Dutch, one of them has to pass the timing device on the inner side. Canada has problems with the right rhythm. Schussler, D'Amours and Sibold skate. The announcer says the Dutch are 0.02 faster than Germany, but they continue well and build on their advantage at first, but then fall back. The Dutch finish in 3:07.23, third place. Canada is fifth with 3:11.79. Winner is Germany, second place Russia, third the Netherlands. |
